Plugging in...

The Comcast breach this week in December, 2023 has forced many a client to change their Comcast (also called Xfinity) email passwords. Just when you thought you were safe... They had a data breach through NO FAULT of their own. A service they use to store their company records online (in the cloud) had the breach in mid October, 2023.

What does this mean to you? Your passwords were not compromised because they are stored in encrypted (jumbled and specially coded) form. Yet Comcast has opted to force many users to change their passwords. What they failed to do is directly inform their customers that they would be doing this. The Tutor isn't here to shame them, but, communicating this should have been easy for them - they have your email address!!

Changing the password isn't the difficult part. What YOU have to know is how to update your phones, tablets and/or any third party mail programs you use such  as Outlook, Mac Mail, Thunderbird, etc. Because, once you change that password at Comcast's prompting, your phone, tablet, outlook, etc have NO IDEA you changed it and you won't be able to send or receive email on those devices. You  could however, login to the Comcast/Xfinity website and fetch your mail there signing in with your email address and the new password you just created.

ALWAYS REMEMBER: before calling for help - is it plugged in, and is it turned on?
